  10. Work on Version 2 of SR has progressed well in recent months, and we will
  11. release a preliminary version in March.  This will contain nearly all of the
  12. planned new features and will run on a much wider variety of machines than
  13. Version 1.

  15. New features in Version 2 include shared global variables and operations;
  16. circular imports; real numbers and math functions; formatted I/O; a more
  17. general syntax with fewer special cases; a more robust system with better
  18. error checking; and many other changes.

  20. Version 2 of the SR Language will be documented in the book "The SR Programming
  21. Language: Concurrency in Practice", by Greg Andrews and Ron Olsson, which
  22. is scheduled for publication by Benjamin/Cummings in July of 1992.  For the
  23. preliminary release of V2 we will provide notes outlining the new features.

  25. V2, like V1, runs under Unix.  An experimental, bare machine version of SR has
  26. been implemented on top of the x-kernel (also distributed by Arizona), but it
  27. is not part of the distribution.
